Healthy Tips for Moms as Summer Ends and School Begins!

OC Mom Magazine caught up with Erica Ziel, one of Southern California’s most sought-after experts founder of OC’s Core Athletica Inc. Now that the kids are getting back to school, it’s a great time for moms to focus more on themselves. Her tips are also great for those with a baby on board as author of Erica is the author of “The Knocked Up Guide to Pregnancy.”

“What better time than now,” said Ziel. “It’s time to get back into healthy eating and get in a regular exercise plan. I find with school brings more routine to the family, so be sure to include YOU in that routine. A healthy, happy momma will be sure to be noticed in your family.”

Leading by setting a great example is important in teaching your kids healthy habits too.


Erica’s Top Tips to help you increase your healthy habits:      


  • Make extra servings of your dinners in the evening for quick lunches the day after.
  • When prepping and packing healthy lunches for your kids at school, do the same for you too!
  • Avoid giving into unhealthy temptation by keeping junk food out of your house – healthy for the whole family!
  • Schedule your workout right after dropping you’re the kids off for school.
  • Set-up workouts with another friend for accountability, and go for a run or walk to double as quality, active, social time with a friend.
  • Busy with work all day? No problem! Instead of sitting and waiting for your child at their sports practice, go for a run or do this body strength routine while you wait on the sidelines. 

 


Body Strength Routine: (2-3 Sets)             


  • Squats x 10
  • Planks hold 30-60 seconds
  • Dips x 10
  • Lunges x 10 each leg
  • Push-ups x 10
