What is your least favorite thing about being a mom? Mommy Guilt. Mommy Guilt. Mommy Guilt.
Motherhood is full of surprises, what is one thing that has surprised you the most about being a mom? I always knew being a Mom would be exhausting. And it definitely is! I’m always surprised at how much I am able to accomplish being so tired all the time. Moms just find some way to adapt and that’s probably because we all have a little super hero in us!
Do you have a career? Yes – I work full time in advertising during the week and started an Etsy shop this year called Driftwood Studio that I work on during the weekends. I’ve always loved being creative so this is my outlet. I make handmade wood signs and absolutely love it! www.etsy.com/shop/DriftwoodStudio2015
If so, any advice you can share on balancing the work/family life? The hardest lesson I’ve had to learn being a working Mom, and really just being a Mom in general, is that I can’t do everything. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to do it all and that’s OK. I make to-do lists for the week so I can prioritize what needs to get done. I try to check off a few tasks each day so I don’t feel overwhelmed. This allows me to get things done but also fit in family time as much as possible.
Give us your “inner Yoda” advice. What is that one thing you want to share with other moms? Being a Mom is hard. I always say Bailey is my biggest reward and my toughest challenge. I think we often feel pressure to appear like we have it together and it’s OK if some days we don’t. All we can do is love our kids and do our best one day at a time.
When not with your kids, what do you like to spend time doing? I love cooking and reading but my favorite thing to do is to go to my workshop and work on my signs. I know that’s technically “work” but it’s something I absolutely enjoy doing as much as I can!
Date night: Any great finds or places you like on date night? My husband and I try to do date nights as often as possible but it’s not always easy to get out of the house. We love getting sushi at Fish in a Bottle in Yorba Linda and on special occasions we like to go to Shades at the Waterfront Hilton in Huntington Beach where we got married.
What’s for dinner? My husband and I love Blue Apron. I love to cook and having the ingredients delivered to the house with a set menu eliminates the stress of deciding what to eat on a busy weeknight. My daughter loves to taste test some of the recipes too!
Five year plan. Where do you see yourself five years from now? I hope to be working on Driftwood Studio fulltime. It’s something I absolutely love and it will also allow me to have a flexible schedule so I can participate more in my daughter’s life. That’s something that gets more and more important to me as she gets older.
Give us 2-20 sentences that sum you up. I love this quote “I’m not an early bird or a night owl. I am some form of exhausted pigeon!”
How many kids? 1 What ages? Bailey, age 3
What city do you live in? Anaheim Hills
What is your favorite thing about being a mom? There’s nothing quite like the bond between a mother and her child. I love having that with my daughter and seeing her grow into such a fun and caring little person. Experiencing the relationship between my husband and my daughter is also one of my favorite things.
