What is your least favorite thing about being a mom? The constant calling of “mom” and cleaning up messes!

Motherhood is full of surprises, what is one thing that has surprised you the most about being a mom? How fast my kids grow and change. I think every mom wishes their kids would stop growing so quickly and that time would slow down.

Do you have a career? Yes, I have my own photography business, Melissa Stewardson Photography (www.MelissaStewardsonPhotography.com), which I started in 2012.

If so, any advice you can share on balancing the work/family life? I mostly work out of my home, so finding a balance is pretty hard. My practical advice would be to get a laptop. I take mine everywhere so I can fit in editing and work wherever I can – the homework table at home, soccer and dance practices, the car when my hubby is driving, even the pool during the summer.

Give us your “inner Yoda” advice. What is that one thing you want to share with other moms? Be organized! I love making lists and crossing off items. I also make a weekly dinner menu every Sunday night so I only have to go grocery shopping once a week (most weeks) and I know exactly how I need to prep for that night’s meal.

When not with your kids, what do you like to spend time doing? I enjoy date nights with my husband and going out with friends. I also like to travel, work out at boot camp, shop (a lot online these days), bake, snowboard, waterski and get the occasional mani/pedi.

Date night: Any great finds or places you like on date night? My husband Darren and I try to have a date night at least once or twice a month. We love Bruno’s in downtown Brea, Salt & Ash in Placentia, The Playground in Santa Ana and Fish in a Bottle in Yorba Linda to name a few. The Anaheim Packing House is also a fun place to go! Anytime we can sneak in a movie, we do that as well!

What’s for dinner?  I love to cook and most weeks, do it about 4 times per week. I try really hard to cook healthy meals during the weeknights because we tend to indulge during the weekends. I love sweets!

Five year plan. Where do you see yourself five years from now?  In 5 years I still see myself running my photography business, being active in my kids lives and living a fulfilling life.

Like most moms, I am constantly on the go and always trying to find more time to get things done. I have always been very self-motivated so it’s very hard for me to take a break from my business. However, I am blessed that my job gives me the flexibility to be there for my girls activities in and out of school. I also love to travel and have fun, so I love the motto, work hard, play harder!
